Revenues generated by embedded consumer electronics devices to double by 2014: report

CBR Staff Writer Published 28 November 2012

Rapid development in Consumer Electronics will steer new embedded & M2M applications during the period

Revenues generated from the embedded consumer electronics devices are expected to double and reach $6.4bn in 2014, as the sector proving to be a main stay for the Machine to Machine industry, according to a new report from Juniper Research.

The report revealed that eBook sales and subscriptions will definitely be the most vital service offered over cellular connected consumer electronics devices.

Others emerging devices including digital photo frames and Sony's PS Vita games console will be overshadowed by the eReader due to its ability to generate revenue, the report said.

Juniper Research associate analyst Anthony Cox said: "Cellular connectivity is slow to reach the lucrative gaming market since WiFi is sufficient for most use cases."

The report also predicts that M2M and embedded devices are expected to reach about half a billion M2M and embedded devices by the end of 2017, from the current 130 million devices.
