Hewlett-Packard is planning to cut more than 700 jobs in Scotland; it has also proposed the closing of its manufacturing operations in Erskine and Renfrewshire. The rest of the staff left at the plant will be kept on in call centre and service roles.
HP is planning to transfer the work from Erskine and Renfrewshire to a cost effective site in the Czech Republic. The move is part of a restructuring plan affecting 5,700 positions across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The plant was opened in 1987 by Compaq and taken over by Hewlett-Packard in 2002.
A Hewlett-Packard spokesman said: "HP regularly reviews its businesses and markets to ensure they continue to offer the best possible value to our customers and that they are aligned to our growth plans and company objectives."
